Locksmith Industry Standards Scheme.

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK is proud to introduce the LIS – Locksmith Industry Standards, a rigorous framework designed to uphold the highest levels of customer care, professional expertise, and business integrity within the locksmithing industry.


Locksmiths who carry the LIS badge demonstrate exceptional commitment to their trade and the customers they serve. To qualify, every LIS-approved locksmith must:

  • Complete specialist training in customer care and customer experience to ensure trust, transparency, and professionalism.

  • Undertake a comprehensive business development program, equipping them with best practices for running a reliable and ethical locksmith service.

  • Hold the Safe Contractor Approved UK badge and certificate, verifying compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

 

The LIS badge is more than a certification—it’s a mark of trust. When customers choose a LIS-approved locksmith, they can be confident in receiving expert service, fair pricing, and a dedication to excellence.

Locksmith Industry Standard (LIS) – Setting the Benchmark for Professionalism

The Guild of Master Locksmiths UK is proud to introduce the Locksmith Industry Standard (LIS)—a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at ensuring professionalism, ethical behaviour, and superior customer service across the UK locksmithing industry.


This standard establishes clear expectations for locksmiths, ensuring that those who carry the LIS badge have met strict training, business development, and accreditation requirements to provide trustworthy and consistent service.


The LIS Certification Process
To qualify for the LIS badge, locksmiths must:

  • They must be a minim of a level 3 awarded locksmith. 

  • Operating a locksmith business in the UK.

  • They will have undergone our Safe Contractor Approved UK award which is a vetting service that allows the Guild to inspect DBS checks, encourages UKVS checks with the UK Vetting Service, it make sure the locksmith has full insurance and all the relevant training awards and makes sure that locksmith has studied and passed our Safe Contractor Approved UK test. To pass they will have passed a course in Data Protection, a course on Health and Safety, a course on UK consumer law. 

  • Locksmiths who meet these criteria demonstrate excellence in their trade, ensuring fair pricing, professional reliability, and adherence to industry best practices.

  • The LIS badge is a mark of distinction—helping customers confidently choose locksmiths who follow rigorous ethical and technical standards.

  • The must have undertaken a full 36 weeks of training to meet our expected standards in both skill and etiquette within the industry.
